What if we went to the other side, as we say here, because for us, the border is merely administrative: Zazpiak bat! in Basque means 7 (provinces) make one (country).
Going south means seeing another side of the Basque Country.
San Sebastian
2-hour walking tour of La Concha and its promenade, the town hall, the port, the old town with its churches, squares and famous pintxos/tapas bars.
Fuentarrabia and/or Pasaïa
1h30 walking tour each
Fontarrabie, lock of the spanish Kingdom, we'll see Charles V's castle, the Gothic church, the medieval streets, the fishermen's quarter and the pintxos/tapas bars.
Pasaïa Donibane, a street village, with its bridge houses, medieval alleyway, fishermen's houses, churches, magnificent views over the mouth of the River Oiarso and pintxos/tapas bars. We'll be talking about Victor Hugo and Lafayette.
Pamplona
A 2-hour walking tour of the historic centre, comprising the 3 historic villages, with its churches, medieval streets, Baroque town hall, famous encierro streets and the Plaza del Castillo, lined with bars where Ernest Hemingway used to hang out.
Getaria
1h30 walking tour. A fishing village, with its medieval streets, ramparts, church, monument to the first circumnavigators, emblematic wine: txakoli, breathtaking views over the Bay of Zarautz and grilled fish restaurants. We'll be talking about the children of the region: the fashion designer Balenciaga and the navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano.
